Persimmons

My eldest uncle has a persimmon tree. It's still full of  persimmons yesterday when I went there for dinner. The leaves have long fallen leaving the tree with just persimmons. Persimmons never drop no matter how ripe. I asked my aunt if I can have a photo of the cute persimmon tree and my aunt gave me a photo of the persimmon tree. Literally. I stared at the photo. In my hand. For quite some time. I should have said can I take a snapshot of the persimmon tree. Anyway I am now the proud owner of my uncle's persimmon tree photo and here is the snapshot of the snapshot.

Tree is netted to prevent birds from eating the persimmons

Have you ever eaten persimmons from the source? Yup neither do I. Persimmons have a kind of protective sap that makes your mouth taste awful if you consume it just like that. Yup I didn't know that either. You have to treat persimmons with 2 bananas and an apple to take away the sap. Like this.

I Kid you not.

I thought my family was joking but it's the truth. I had a bite of the just-pluck-from-tree persimmon and had to throw away the whole fruit. Then I had one of the persimmons from the bag above. Taste like those I got from NTUC. Now I am convinced apple and bananas works wonder on persimmon! It has to be banana and apple. Not grapes, not durian, not just banana and not just apples.

Mother Nature is really wonderful don't you think?
